“…God my exceeding joy…”~ Psa. 43:4
For some time now this verse has constantly been upon my heart. It seems like it is branded there.
David was King and as such had a legion of responsibilities: decisions to make, daily counseling, family problems, personal trials and temptations, health issues, the list goes on.
But in spite of these pressing needs, GOD WAS HIS EXCEEDING JOY! Not just a joy, but an exceeding joy. That is, an uncommon joy. Not a future bliss, which most certainly is included, but a present joy that excels all other joys!
We’re told when the Wise Men saw Jesus’ Star, “…they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.” And Peter tells us this kind of joy is unspeakable.“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” There isn’t any way to describe it. There are no words!
This joy can only be experienced by and through faith! It must be appropriated; one definition of the word is: to take possession of for one’s own use.
