I have learned over these fourscore and eight years not to dig up unpleasantries of the past that I have buried. When I have, as Mary of old said, “It stinketh.” The stench is worse than when one originally buried it; it becomes almost unbearable to tolerate. The undesired aroma stays with one for some time thereafter.
In spite of this I have found many such people visit these graves regularly. I think it is a wise thing, once you have buried these undesirables, to break and throw away the shovel. Sad to say, some go back to the troublesome site looking for the shovel, that they may repair it.
The past is history, and no one can undo it! But we can do something about the present. One thing being, we can learn from the past.
Let us not be as the man of Gadara, “Who had his dwelling among the tombs.” Jesus sent him back to the land of the living. And that is where Jesus would have each of us live, my friends! John 10:10,b
