“And He went ‘a little further’, and fell on His face, and prayed…~ Matt.26:39
When the term, “Above and Beyond” is used it generally means, far and beyond what is required or expected of a person. If this little aphorism was ever true of anyone on earth, it was and is true of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He taught His followers, who are expected to walk in His steps, to do the same. When He told them to turn the other cheek when smitten on the one side and to go a second mile, when only compelled to go one, He was not teaching pacifism. The Law condoned war, self-defence, etc. And He believed in and kept the Law! What He is teaching is exceptionalism. These things are not the world’s norm, but theirs is to retaliate and rebel, at such times!
When a Christian does more than required of him or her, it is then the world takes recognition of them that there is a true Christ-likeness. Until then that saint is just like everyone else.
When the usual becomes unusual, people take notice.
