"See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant."~ Jer. 1:10
God tells His man Jeremiah that He is going to do something great in the lives of His backslidden people, but first they must acquire a good plow and bulldozer. The reason is that the things they had planted and built in their lives must be destroyed before any fresh planting or building could take place.
"Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up,” Matt. 15:13. "Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it," Psa. 127:1.
Before Nehemiah started building he cleared away the rubbish, and the Sower tells us to get rid of the weeds before we sow the good seed in our lives. The Bible teaches this is the only way to build a strong structural life, and one that is fruitful.
A house built on the sand will not bear up when the storms come, nor can a tree with bad fruit bring forth good fruit, says our Lord. Even the rich farmer knew you had to tear down the old if you're to build a greater. And John tells us that to get rid of a bad fruit tree we must put the axe to its root.
This principle is true whether it be a nation, church, business, family, or individual life! It can get messy at the beginning, but in the end you'll find it cleans up nice.
