In my article today I do not wish to go into the scores of scripture proving the preservation (referred to also as the perseverance) of the saints, but approach the subject practically, rather than doctrinally. The debate, I am afraid, has mostly generated more heat than light.
True, some texts would seem to give credence to the opposing side, but after careful examination, fall apart, having no Biblical foundation, but built on sand. The rule is, you never take a few obscure texts over many plain texts that prove otherwise.
When I deal with one who has left their First Love, who questions their own salvation, as do others close to them, I simply ask one question, “Do you miss Him? That is; your time together, the sweet fellowship, His loving Words that set your heart afire?”
To me this is the acid test! If you will re-read the story of the Prodigal Son you will find it is apparent in all his sin and misery, he missed his father. He was in his every thought, it appears to me. How he must have longed to be back in the arms of his father!
He had broken his fellowship but not his relationship; he was always his son!
Our Father is waiting and watching!
Excellent as Always,I think this message is much received and appreciated by many of us.Thankyou Brother Sandlin
Thank you Richard. Even as a lifelong believer, I have struggled with this. Love your answer. Gives me an idea for a post.😉
