“For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men (and kings, Lk. 10:24 )have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.”~ Matt. 13:17
The Old Testament prophets, like Isaiah; righteous men, as Abraham; and kings, such as David saw Christ’ day, but with the eye of faith. The disciples saw with their natural eyes.
From the very first promise by God of Christ’s coming to earth (Gen. 3:15), the godly were in great anticipation, looking by faith for the Messiah’s appearance. This was the desire of all God’s elect.
There was no object dearer to the hearts of God’s people than the Lord’s King and His Kingdom, on earth. They suffered for, gave to, prayed daily, and were willing to go to any extent, for the furtherance of this great event! No matter what the cost might be to them personally!
In some sense of the word we too are like the Old Testament saints, we haven’t seen Him with the physical eye, but by faith. We ought not feel one bit slighted by this. “Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
And Peter writing the Believers of his day said,“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.”
Remember my dear brother and sister in Christ, faith always gives way to sight! It is only a question of time before,“Thine eyes shall see the King in His beauty.”
Job believed this! “I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.”
