“Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.”~ Psa. 73:25
Thus says the man who wiggled himself into the very heart of God. Not only did he desire his distant God in Heaven, but his God who was near and dear to him, upon earth. He had a child in Heaven and loved ones and friends on earth, but none could compete with his God for his all-out affections!
One of the characteristics of the worldling, says the Bible, is that God is not in all his thoughts. A.W. Tozer commented, “The mightiest thought the mind can entertain is the thought of God.”
I think the number small whose desires are affectionately fixed upon God, and God alone. There is a vast amount of things and people who vie for our complete attention. But our one supreme goal should be a God-centered life, with no competitors.
Lack of our desire for God is the cause for that giant empty hole in our hearts; and only God can fill it satisfactorily!
Again I quote Tozer, “What I am anxious to see in Christian believers is a beautiful paradox. I want to see in them the joy of finding God while at the same time they are blessedly pursuing Him. I want to see in them the great joy of having God and yet always wanting Him.”
At the end of self you will find God!~ rds
