“But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness”~ 2 Cor.2:1
Paul, like David of old, talked to himself from time to time. Neither was crazy. As D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones says, “There are times when we all need to take ourselves in hand and give ourselves a good talking to.” Paul was a determined man. Without internal determinations, we will never accomplish anything of value eternally. Determination settles a lot of life's frustrations.
We are plainly told in Scripture that a double-minded person can expect to receive nothing from the Lord; that he or she will not excel. We’re told of Reuben of the Old Testament, “ Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel.”
It says of Jesus, “He set His face like a flint.” He was determined to see it through, no matter the cost. He emptied out His coffer, so to speak; He kept nothing back! He believed what He determined was worth any price He had to pay. To such followers of the Lamb great value is placed on the things of God.
I have learned that those who make it in the Christian life are the ones who have rock-bottom determination.
Each new phase in life that confronts one, in the will of God, will require a holy determination. If not, an individual will end his or her life shocked to find their foundation was made of sand.
Jesus told His followers, “Settle it therefore in your heart….” Every unsettled thing in your life the devil will fight you on.
"Determination is not determined by your temperament, but by your will."~ rds
