Did You Forget To Remember?
"Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.”~ Gen. 40:23
“Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day.”~ Gen. 41:9
In times of great doubt and fear, Joseph helped Pharaoh’s servant immensely. Joseph’s only request being, “But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house." (prison) ~ Gen.40:14
But if you’re familiar with the story, you know that the butler forgot this blessed helper for two full years before remembering his own neglect. How like him are we all! We are so prone to forget those who aided us in our darkest hour of need. We have short memories!
Could there be anything worse than this? I am sorry, saddened, and ashamed to say yes! “They forgat God their Saviour, which had done great things.” ~ Psa. 106:21
“They remembered not His hand, nor the day when He delivered them from the enemy.”~ Psa. 78:42
“…they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies”~ Psa. 106:7
“They soon forgat His works.”~ Psa. 106:13
O, bless His Holy Name, they forgot, but He remembered! “Nevertheless He regarded their affliction, when He heard their cry: And He remembered for them His covenant, and repented according to the multitude of His mercies.”~ Psa. 106:45
This is what the Lord’s Table is all about. “This do in remembrance of Me.” IT’S A FORGET-ME-NOT!
