“But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying…And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning (Pentecost)…Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us…”~Acts 11:4,15,1
In our opening text Peter is speaking to the unbelieving Jewish believers in the early church. He is recounting what God did in the house of the Gentile, Cornelius. How he did the same thing for them that he did for the Jews at Pentecost.
Powerless pseudo scholars tell us Pentecost cannot be repeated; maybe not that particular day, but Peter tells us the event can. The former is not the issue, the latter is!
There are some of us who need to be reminded that God doesn't mind repeating Himself. In John chapter four, Jesus performs His second miracle; and it was in the same place He worked His first. A repeat performance, if you please.
The old song, It Is No Secret What God Can Do, written by Stuart Hamblem, says it best. Ask Elisha who received of Elijah the spirit that was upon him. A double portion, if you please. What he did for his teacher he did for him also. Even more so.
My mentor in the Lord was an aged evangelist by the name of Dr. Joe Henry Hankins. He used to tell a story about an old black man who traveled to the place where John Wesley purportedly received his mighty anointing of the Spirit. Standing upon the marker, he raised his hands heavenward and said, “Do it again, Lord. Do it again!”
