“Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom (intellectual), neither let the mighty man glory in his might (physical), let not the rich man glory in his riches (material): But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me (spiritual), that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.”~ Jer. 9:23-24
After reading the above text I was reminded of the old adage, “It is not WHAT you know, but WHO you know” that counts with God.
To know God intelligently, to understand Him aright, is something to glory in by each of His elect. To have the right apprehension of His nature, ways, and attributes, is nothing short of glorious! What do you glory in?
Man is meant to know God. Do you know Him? I am not asking if you believe in God, or if you believe certain things about Him. But do you know Him? Is He real to you? Are you enjoying God? Is He the center of your life? Is He the source of your greatest joy? Darling David said of his God, “Then will I go …unto God my exceeding joy.”~ Psa. 43:4
No amount of education, power, religion, or wealth guarantees an understandable knowledge of our Holy God. A hear-say acquaintance will not suffice, only a personal relationship. Throughout the scripture God’s people refer to Him over and again as, “‘Our’ God.”
Before leaving this world Jesus told His followers, “I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God,and your God,”~ Jn. 20:17. We have the same God as Jesus.
“My God, my Father, blissful name!
O may I call Thee mine!
May I with sweet assurance claim
A portion so Divine!
