And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward”~ Ex. 14:15
SURROUNDED BY IMPOSSIBILITIES
God’s people had mountains on one side of them, the desert on the other, with Pharaoh and his armies coming up from the rear, and the Red Sea before them. Evidently, as Hannah, Moses had been praying silently in his heart. The Lord didn’t rebuke him for it, only that it was time to put shoe leather to his prayer, to turn it into action so to speak. There is a time to “stand still” (v13), and there is a time to get a move on and “go forward” (v15).
FORWARD...ALWAYS FORWARD
“The Captain of [our] Salvation “ (Heb. 2:10) still bids His elect to keep moving ahead. We are, like Israel, to go forward by faith (Heb. 11:29) trusting God to do the impossible when we reach the river's edge. We are to go as far as we can on dry ground looking to Him to divide the sea when it is reached. This is the kind of life that brings glory to our God! “[He] led them through the deep...so didst Thou lead Thy people, to make Thyself a glorious name.” Isa. 63:13-14
"Forward!" be our watchword,
Steps and voices joined;
Seek the things before us,
Not a look behind;
Burns the fiery pillar
At our army's head;
Who shall dream of shrinking,
By our Captain led?
Forward through the desert,
Through the toil and fight;
Heaven's Kingdom waits us,
Forward into light.
(Henry Alford, 1871)
