“For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.”~ Matt. 25:14-15
“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ.”~ 1 Pet. 4:11
Throughout the Scriptures you will find a saint’s giving, service, how God gifted them, as well as the way they lived, according to his or her individual ability. I used to preach we need to give God 110% of our lives. But that stands to be corrected. In each area of our lives and ministries we are to function according to our God-given abilities! No more, no less.
If you’re an 8-cylinder car, you are to hit on all 8. The same goes for a 6 or 4, whatever our capacity. We are to come up to that limit. There is to be no competition among us! If you are an 8-cylinder running only on 6, then at the Judgement Seat of Christ a 4-cylinder that runs on all 4 gets the goodies.
If God ordained you drive an old clunker, keep right on going as others pass you. Remember Aesop’s story of the Tortoise and the Hare.
I love the comparison to a car's engine; it makes the lesson so easy to comprehend.
