“I have glorified Thee on earth: I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do.”~ Jn. 17:4
John seventeen is the Lord’s Prayer. The prayer in Matthew six is the disciples prayer. Without question, this is the greatest prayer that has ever been prayed, both in time and eternity. It is an intimate peek into the heart of the Son of God and reveals His great love for the Father, and His people
In our text, Jesus is reflecting on, and reviewing, His life lived on earth. It was all lived to the glory of God! Every waking minute- every second- God’s glory was His only desire. It is very hard for me to believe that anyone who does not live to glorify God on earth, would want to do it in heaven.
His was a brief life and ministry. But a short life is not a wasted life, if lived for God. No life is incomplete if it fulfills the Will of God on this earth. He only healed a few sick folk; He only preached a few sermons; He only trained a few men. He wrote no books; He formed no organization, but He finished the work God gave Him to do. No complaining of the poverty He was born into; no bitterness because of the disgrace that was heaped upon Him; no self pity for the things He suffered- only joy that He could please and praise His Father.
There was no secular and sacred in His life. All ground was Holy ground. Although He did not preach a lot of sermons, His whole life was a sermon. Whether it was sleeping, eating, bathing, praying, preaching, or witnessing- it was all the same to Him. The scriptures testimony of Him was, “He went about doing good.” This is our one goal in life: to do good to as many people as we can for God’s eternal glory.
Someone has said, To glorify God means to make Him look good.” Let us make every effort today to make our God look good.
