“And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying...God shall give Pharaoh an answer…”~ Gen. 41:16
At the close of my wife’s life on earth, as I’ve mentioned in a previous article, she spoke continuously to unseen friends standing at the foot of her bed. No one was allowed to stand there because, as she would say, “I can’t see them.” Repeatedly she would say, like a broken record, “Who will tell them that God answers prayer?” It stirred my soul that a woman eaten up with pancreatic cancer, some eighty pounds in weight, and in constant pain, still believed God answered prayer!
It reminded me of another-One who hung on a Cross over 2000 years ago-how He set the example for such suffering saints as my lifelong companion. Forsaken by His God, He still believed in Him and that He answered prayer. “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” He still owned Him as His God in spite of His present condition; and He believed that God would answer Him. For a question expects an answer.
I take solace in our opening text concerning God answering me. If He answered the likes of Pharaoh, He will surely answer His elect that cry unto Him night and day, although it may be long in coming, Lk. 18:7. As God told Habakkuk, “...though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry,” Hab. 2:3. David encourages us along this line of truth, “Moses and Aaron...and Samuel among them that call upon His name; they called upon the LORD, and He answered them,” (Psa. 99:6)
While Jeremiah was shut in and shut up in prison his God encouraged him with these words, “Call unto Me and I will answer thee…” Jer. 33:3. The same God who gave him an answer will give you an answer, as you sit in your dungeon of doubt!
