Recently I came across this unusual text during my devotional time. It seems Isaiah is praying this for God’s people. I am going to approach it in a practical sense rather than in its historical context, that being the near invasion of the Assyrians upon the Jews. My intent is to bring attention to God’s Arm in the lives of His children.
The comments in the commentaries I have read only bring out the fact that the arm denotes protection. But I think that identification and affection can be added to it when the reference pertains to God. In Solomon’s Song the question is asked concerning the bride, “Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved?”
My bride use to take my arm when we were out anywhere. I need not tell any man how that makes one feel. By doing this Salle showed the world this man will take care of me, and I want all to know I am forever identified with him. And even more important, as she snuggled close, that all her affection was toward him. This is what Christ's BRIDE is to do!
“Every morning” is when it all starts, and goes throughout the day. As we go forward to fight the battles of the day it is the Arm of God and not the arm of the flesh, we’re to lean upon. The latter will fail you every time. David put it this way, “Thou hast a mighty arm.” Believe me, this man knew firsthand.
“What a fellowship, what a joy divine, Leaning on the everlasting arms; What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning, Safe and secure from all alarms.”
“The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms”~ Deut. 33:27

What a beautiful illustration! Loved how your thoughts flow so well with the scriptural quotes and selected hymn. I haven't sung this hymn for a long time, but now am singing and applying it to my heart. Thank you.
