“For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.”~ Psa. 18:28.
As a young man I smoked incessantly, and it was not uncommon to ask another, “Got a match?” Many times the answer was, “Nope, sorry.” Those words have never fallen from the lips of our God. He has an eternal matchbook. He never runs out of matches!
There are some who believe a candle does not shed much light. But that has to do with the extent of the darkness. I have found the darker the darkness the brighter the light. The small light of a candle can show not only where you’re at, but light to take the next step.
I have a small electric night light that shines throughout the long night, and it is all the light I need during those dark hours when I get up. Jesus said the “light [of] a candle…giveth light unto all that are in the house,”~ Matt. 5:15. When my electricity goes out I have a cabinet drawer full of candles and matches.
Whenever God lights our candle you can be sure the devil can’t blow it out. It is “Holy Fire!” It drives away all the gloom that accompanies darkness; along with the paralyzing fear of uncertainty.
And so, if the "darkness that can be felt" [Ex.10:21] has fallen upon you, ask God “GOT A MATCH?”
