Henceforth I call you not servants…but I have called you friends…”~ Jn. 15:15
Over the span of a long lifetime I have had the privilege of being called “Friend,” by a host of precious people; from people of whom I never deserved the title. I deserved my enemies, but not my friends.
But for Jesus Christ to call me His friend, well to say the least, this is more than I can comprehend or fathom. I have never been, and ashamed to say, nor will I ever be the friend to Him that He has been and is to me!
He is all the Bible says a friend should be, in every respect of the word. He loveth at all times; He sticketh closer than a brother; faithful are the wounds of this Friend; and yes, even to the extent of laying His life down for His friend. The song says it beast, “There is not a friend like the lowly Jesus.”
In Song of Solomon the bride calls her bridegroom, “My Friend.” And John the Baptist tells us, he was the “friend to the bridegroom.” And father Abraham is referred to by James as “the friend of God.”
Think of it, a friend of the Great Triune God!
“Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies.”~ Aristotle.
