“And now, Lord, what wait I for?” ~ Psa. 39:7
The Lord gave me the little aphorism in our title years ago when I pastored. I had noticed among my congregation that most, if not all, who mentioned something or things they were going to do in the near future never did them, no matter how good their intentions may have been.
At this time of year (December) as the calendar runs its course there is much talk of diets, devotions, and duties, all intended to take effect as soon as the date reads the 1st. But when the leaf is turned, sadly, things remain pretty much the same.
As they say, “Same Old Same Old.”
I have always preached and counseled people to act immediately when they know what is right to do. I find when we don’t, and we wait, and the devil will talk us out of it! When Paul knew what he should do we are told, “… immediately we endeavoured to go…” Acts 16:10. To know and not act is sin (Jam. 4:17).
It’s the NOW life, not later. “Now faith…”; “Now is the accepted time…”; Now it is high time…” It is always to be our philosophy as Christians, “Sooner rather than later.”
