"If thou turn away...from doing thy pleasure...not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure...Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD..."~ Isa. 58:13-14
Independence is a wonderful thing, but not when it comes to God. The bottom line in the Fall was the desire of our first parents to be independent of their Maker. David tells us both people, politicians, and religious leaders still seek to divorce themselves from the blessed Godhead, saying, "Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us." This is a timeless truth; for several hundred years later the early church, while in prayer, repeated this as a fact in their day. See Psa. 2 cp. Acts 4
The Man, Christ Jesus, our example, was totally dependent upon His God every second of every minute of every hour of every day of His life. "I can of mine own self do nothing," says the precious Son of God. The great Jehovah God was Jesus' life-support; His every breath was for the glory of God! He boldly proclaimed unashamedly, "I do always those things that please Him." His entire life was built around pleasing His Father. And so should His followers be.
One of the most memorable days in a saint's life is the day when he or she ceases living separately from the Lover of their souls. When they fall at those nailed-scarred feet and cry out, "Without thee I can do nothing," and follow this declaration up with the heat-felt resolve, "Without thee I will do nothing!" Then we will be able to say with our beloved Paul, "[We] which live should not henceforth live unto [our]selves, but unto him which died for [us], and rose again."
Truly my friend, such a day will be be marked on your spiritual calendar as, "DEPENDENCE DAY!"
