It May Sound Humble-But...
“The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power…~ Rev. 4:10-11
There is a saying among the scripturally illiterate and unlearned, “O, I don’t want any rewards, I just want to see Jesus.” This may sound humble, but in light of the Bible’s teaching, it is anything but debasing oneself before Him at The Judgement Seat of Christ.
The New Testament is full of scriptures, illustrations, and stories of the saints receiving rewards, both here and in heaven.
In presenting to Him the crowns we received for our earthly good works we are not re-paying Him for what He did for us. The old song by Isaac Watts says:
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
And so it is not a re-paying, but has to do with respecting! It is our love gift to Him for all He has done for us! Epaphroditus, it would seem, knew this great truth, “Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life…”
