Please read again, Lk. 15:11-32
The gospel of Luke is not the only place in the Bible you find the words, “A certain man had two sons” and making reference to one of them going bad. The term is found in Matt. 21:28, also.
Throughout the Gospels you find Jesus dealing with grown children, in various wretched conditions. One such case is the father whose son was devil-possessed from childhood, Mk.9:17-27. When no one else could help, Jesus said to the father, “Bring him unto me.” I think these are four of the sweetest words in the scriptures.
I personally have a special place in my heart for this gospel story. For it was the preaching of it that ultimately brought me Home to my Father. As I have read church history I’ve found it has done the same for untold numbers of others also, and still is! The story is not outdated!
Unlike the Prodigal’s brother, our Elder Brother is thrilled to see us return Home to our Father!
There is a gospel song entitled, “WHEN GOD RAN”; here are some of the lyrics:
The only time I ever saw Him run
Was when He ran to me
He took me in his arms
Held my head to His chest
Said My son's come home again
Lifted my face Wiped the tears from my eyes
With forgiveness in His voice He said
Son do you know I still love you.
He caught me by surprise when God ran.

After reading your thoughts from this devotional I preached from Mark chapter 9 in a school chapel. The altars were filled with young people. Probably around 50 it is a large Christian school. You said that God really used the passage and still does and it held true! God bless you brother
