“...Jesus...went about doing good...Jesus...was...mighty in deed and word.”~ Acts 10:38; Lk. 24:19
No commentary I possess picks up on the fact that Jesus’ good and mighty deeds came before ministering the Word. We see this pattern again in Luke's inspired historical account of Christ and His Church, “The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach.” Acts 1:1 To put it simply, Jesus walked it before He talked it.”
How much we saints of this present age can learn from our Lord’s example in this respect. I’m afraid many, if presented with the challenging quip “Put up or shut up,” would become mutes very quickly. John the Beloved, in his first small epistle, tell us, “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” 1Jn. 3:18
As I have mentioned from time to time in articles, Jesus never told anyone while here on earth that He loved them. It is recorded by the Holy Spirit that He loved Lazarus, the young rich ruler, and those He chastens; but He personally never told anyone that He did. HE SHOWED THEM! If you’ll study your Bible, you will find love is an act, not just an affection.
