“And ye know that He [Christ] was manifested to take away our sins…”~ 1 Jn. 3:5
“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”~ 1 Jn. 3:8
There are two sides to every coin. On the one side, “He was manifested to take away our sins.” But on the flip side we find, He was “…manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”~ 1 Jn. 3:8
The latter is speaking of His ministry of destruction! He destroys nothing that is godly, good, and that glorifies God, only the evil and ugly. Our Divine Surgeon cuts out the cancer, not the healthy tissue.
For years, Satan had bound a dear woman so that she could not straighten up. But when Jesus came on the scene, she was able to walk tall. In an instant, our Lord destroyed eighteen years of the devil’s work. “And ought not this woman…whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond…?”~ Lk. 18:16
And, by the way, since He is the same today as He was then, He is still able to do the same for us. “In this [is] manifested the love of God toward us…”~ 1Jn. 4:9
There is no knot that devil can tie that Jesus can’t unloose.
