“Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly…And he prayed ‘again’~Ja. 5:17-18
“He [Jesus] went away ‘again’ the second time, and prayed…”~Matt. 26:42
While in Ireland with our two younger children, my youngest girl Charity asked for a guitar for Christmas. When I did not give her an affirmative answer, my wife asked why. I told her, “Let’s wait and see if she really wants it.” To which Salle replied, “But how shall we know?” My answer, “If she really wants it she will not stop asking!” By the way, she got it.
Jesus certainly taught this truth. In Luke’s gospel chapter eighteen, verses one through eight, we find a heart-moving story of a woman who kept asking till she got the answer (please read and meditate on it). Our Lord said of her, as well as all who follow in her train, “And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
Let us all follow the example of the blind man of Jericho, when told to hold his peace. “And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more…”
