Through these many years, I have learned that the best teacher, contrary to popular belief, is not experience; it is instruction. The Bible, I think, proves this to be so. For example, the book of Proverbs is all about instruction, while the one that follows (Ecclesiastes) is about one's experience.
Both were written by the same man, Solomon. From the latter book, we see that he didn’t take his own advice which is found in the former. As a result, we read in his memoir of a life filled with unnecessary struggles; thus is the consequence of all who ignore the first.
It has been my observation that most of mankind chooses experience over instruction, in spite of the fact that the lessons learned are hard teachers. Signs such as “Wet paint; do not touch" are rarely obeyed. The result being we go away seeking for a good paint remover.
Mother Eve would attest to this fact I present to you. God’s first sign in the Garden of Eden, “Do not touch,” was not adhered to by her. And you know the rest of the story.
Sad , is it not, that many go through life touching red-hot stoves in spite of all the instructive warnings?
