“Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.~Lk. 15:8-9
I try to think (meditate), and observe as much as possible, on the happenings of our day and age. From my correspondence and personal involvement with other Christians one thing seems to generally characterize most. While on their pilgrim journey they have lost something of value, and what makes it even more lamentable, they seem to have not even noticed or just don’t care.
Let me list a few things one can lose: your power with God; your compassion for others; a sweet spirit has been replaced with bitterness; faith no longer governs one’s life; communion with the Holy Ghost is a thing of the past; spiritual things have lost their taste; and anticipating Christ’s return is no longer in your thoughts. Lost things can be found, if one patiently and diligently searches.
It’s important to look in the right place. Many are looking in the wrong place because of convenience. Like the man who lost his wallet, he was searching the ground around the streetlight. A passerby volunteered to help. He asked in what particular vicinity he lost it. The man pointed across the road to a dark place. When asked why then was he was looking under the streetlamp he replied, “There is more light here.”
It really doesn’t take a Greek or Hebrew scholar to help you find what you’ve lost. In the Old Testament a man lost his axehead while chopping. He went to God’s man for help and got an answer that was simple and practical, one he could have figured out for himself. The man of God simply asked, “Where fell it?” That is, you will find it where you lost it! LET US ALL GET TO LOOKING.
