One definition of the cliche in our title is: the person with the lowest rank, the least important, a powerless individual.
Nowhere in scripture do we find the norm for a saint’s life as being cast down, defeated, or discouraged. We find just the opposite: we are always triumphant, more than conquerors, victorious, and overcomers! This is God’s intention for all of His elect.
“Bound, who should be conquerors
Slaves, who should be free.
Paul tells us we, “…shall reign by one, Jesus Christ.” (Rom. 5:17) If He reigns in us then we will reign in life. Instead of being robbed in royalty, we wear discarded ragged rags. WE LIVE ON A NEEDLESSLY LOW LEVEL!
The Bible declares He that is within us is greater than he that is in the world. This, no doubt, is what the old divines meant when saying, “When you fall, shout the victory.” That is, you always had it, you just didn’t appropriate it.
Enjoyment of Biblical truths is not in intellectual consent, hope, or even asking, but is found in appropriating these truths. There is a faith that asks and one that appropriates. The latter gets the benefits of the promise.
Hebrews tells us the people of God could not enter into the victory because of unbelief. There is such a thing as unbelieving believers! Jesus said, “According to your faith.” You can believe in the meal set before you, but never enjoy it if you don’t take it for yourself, that is, appropriate it. The Bible way is to, "Taste and see."
We’re to live in the realm of the will, not feelings. It is true whether you believe (appropriate) it or not.
Many, I find, live ignorantly of God’s deliverance. Some love to have it so, it appears. It seems they don’t want to know.
