“And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.”~
Have you ever driven a nail in the wall, using the heel of your shoe? If so, you understand the saying, “Making do with what you have.” God does this. Notice He took the closest thing at hand to give Moses an object lesson. God doesn’t go looking when it is at hand! The moral is not hard to grasp: USE WHAT YOU HAVE AT HAND! WHAT’S CLOSEST.
This is seen throughout the holy scriptures: pitchers of close-by neighbors used to perform a miracle; the jawbone of an ass to overcome an enemy; a woven basket to enable a quick getaway; broken pieces of a ship as life rafts; a small stone to bring down a giant; a crib to lie your baby in.
We need to learn to make do with what we have. If not, one may spend his or her life waiting and watching for something that has already been provided, something right under our nose, so to speak. But pride or ignorance, or both, keep us from submitting and accepting it or them.
Sometimes the closeup on our bifocals is more needed rather than the distance lens. (rds)
