"God also hath set the one over against the other."~ Eccl. 7:14
Some things in life do not mix: oil and water for example. Each is a distinct entity and serves its own purpose. Daniel mentions iron and clay being in this category, “And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay...but they shall not cleave one to another...as iron is not mixed with clay.” (Dan.2:43) May none of us be guilty of attempting to join together what God hath put asunder.
This is true of the new and old year. You don’t want to blend the two. To bring the old year into the new or to put the new year back into the old, is the wrong mixture. Generally speaking, it is not always wise to bring the past into the future; and most certainly you should never put your future into the past. Yesterday is yesterday, today is today, tomorrow is tomorrow; this is God’s order.
To be sure, says our Master, if you’re going to put new wine in old bottles you can expect a real mess; and putting a new patch on an old garment will only bring embarrassment to you as all observe the obvious. They don’t go together. They’re not a match. God’s way is always making things new. He has a New Birth for the sinner, a New Man for the believer, and a New Heaven and a New Earth awaits His Chosen.
