“…thy Father which seeth in secret Himself shall reward thee openly.”~ Matt.6:4, 6, 18
Jesus tells us three times in Matthew’s gospel chapter six that God sees what we do in secret and that He rewards us for it openly. That is, He rewards for our righteous behavior behind closed doors. Whether it be giving, praying, fasting or anything else that’s done for Him.
The greatest part of the Christian life is that part that only God sees! When the shepherd boy, David, slew a lion and bear, he had an audience of One...GOD! Later the Lord rewarded him openly when he slew the giant Goliath. His private acts before God were rewarded with public acts for all to see.
God told Elijah, “Go hide thyself.” Later He told him, “Go show thyself.” If one cannot muster the first, he will never experience the second. Well-knowns are recruited from the unknowns. As the Apostle Paul tells us, “As unknown, and yet well known.”
When rewards are dished out, we’re told that God does the honors personally. “[God] Himself shall reward thee openly” - from His hand to ours, so to speak.
