“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”~2 Cor. 4:17-18
“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”~ Rom. 8:18
Two of the great truths the blessed Spirit of God revealed to me during the time of my wife’s ten-month battle with cancer was the duet of texts quoted above. To compare our sufferings now with the glory that awaits us is an “unworthy” exercise of heart and mind. While this world is weighed down by sin, God’s people are going to be “weighed down by glory!” I can hardly wait to carry such a burden! I know Salle is enjoying bearing hers.
One of the great secrets of the Christian life is being able, by faith, to look past our present afflictions to the future glory that awaits us. It will be a weight of glory we will carry throughout eternity, a burden we will cherish!
When one puts present trials in one scale and the glory that awaits us in the other, the latter so outweighs the former that it is impossible to explain. Unlike Moses our glory will not pass away, but remain upon us, ETERNALLY!
“The enabling power of enduring the sometimes tedious long-distance race in life is found in keeping our eyes on the finishing goal!”~ rds
