OUR SAVIOUR'S SOCIAL LIFE
“And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.”~ Jn. 2:1-2
Our Lord was not an advocate of asceticism, that is, a self-disciplined life that avoids all forms of indulgence, typically for religious reasons. You can be in the world without being part of the world; a loosened ice-cube is still in the tray but no longer of the tray.
Separation is not isolation but rather insulation!
We hear little or nothing, especially from the Separatist Movement, on Jesus’ social life in spite of the fact that He attended weddings; went to funerals; enjoyed family dinner on the ground, picnics, if you please; eating at friends houses, as well as sinners; and going on a retreat with fellow workers. His enemies accused Him of being a glutton and winebibber because of the fact He enjoyed a good meal and a glass of wine.
Many well-meaning, but misguided saints, attempt to take the humanness out of our (and their) humanity, not considering God made us human beings, forgetting the fact that when He sent His Son into the world, it was as a human being. Even after our Lord’s resurrection, He had breakfast with His disciples, a meal with His Emmaus friends, etc. And don’t forget that great social event in the future, The Supper of the Lamb!
