Peeking in Prayer
If you don't believe in Satan, get on your knees and pray! You'll find out soon after.
Jesus told His disciples, in essence, that in all their prayers, they were to pray with one eye open. We correct our children for peeking in prayer, but they may be more scriptural than we credit them for.
Nehemiah, of the Old Testament, believed in doing this, “Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night…”~ Neh. 4:9 Also the beloved Paul of the New tells us, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching…”~ Eph. 6:18
Fanny Crosby wrote a gospel song about this theme, one verse says:
“Watch and pray; the tempter may be near us;
Keep the heart with jealous care,
Lest the door, a moment left unguarded,
Evil thoughts may enter there.”
When you pray, keep a watch. You can be sure your enemies are watching you; just ask Daniel. And as to our Arch-enemy, Satan, you can be sure he is close by when you pray. Study the context of Ephesians chapter six, on the whole armour of God; it is about the battle we fight in prayer, the devil being the foe.
“Prayer, in one sense of the word, is the most dangerous position a Christian can be in.” ~ rds
