“…shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?~ Lk. 18:7
In the first of our two main texts we find God answering prayer at the very time one is praying. The second shows Him answering some time after the prayer. Which of the two proves true in our case is God’s prerogative. The timing is in His hands!
For example: Joshua saw his brief prayer come to pass immediately, when the sun and moon stood still; and also, Peter’s short prayer was answered pronto, when he was sinking beneath the waves.
On the other hand, old Abraham of the Old Testament and Zachariah of the New Testament waited years before they saw an answer to theirs. What D.L. Moody said of prayer was true in these two godly men’s lives: “Tarry at the promise. God always returns by way of His Promises.”
Oswald Chambers said, “We do not pray at all until we are at our wits’ end. '…then their soul fainted in them.' Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble'." He went on to say, “It is the only way we can get in touch with Reality.”
“At the end of self, is God!
