“Behold … thou hast in love to my soul … cast all my sins behind thy back.”~ Isa. 38:17
The little cliche that says, “We need to put it behind us,” simply means putting unpleasantries in our lives behind us and focusing on the next thing ahead of us. We’re to cease being upset and affected by things that didn’t turn out as we would have liked or supposed in the past.
If our loving God puts our problematic past behind Him, then we should do the same. Paul did! “… this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus,”~ Phil. 3:13-14.
There is nothing behind God’s back but eternal forgetfulness! When we repeat confession of our past sins to God, the Lord says to us, as the gospel song goes, “What sins are you talking about?” The Bible teaches He not only forgives and cleanses away our sins, but forgets them!
No one ever got ahead by dragging around the ball and chain of yesterday’s failures, shortcomings, and sins today.
The writer of Hebrews knew this when he penned, “…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”~ Heb. 12:1
“… the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind,”~ Isa. 65:17
