“Fight the good fight of faith…I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”~ 1 Tim. 6:12; 2 Tim. 4:7
The Christian life is a constant battle between the world, the flesh, and the devil. And there is no discharge in that war, so says the wise man, Eccl. 8:8. You can run from it as a coward, or face it as a courageous warrior.
David chose to confront it head on, and as a result we are told, “Now there was long war…but David waxed stronger and stronger…” As the old song goes, “Each victory will help you, some other to win.”
David didn’t run from his giant; he ran to him! His giant may have had the world’s marvelous armour, but David was attired in God’s mighty armour! Paul calls it, “The whole armour of God.”
The late Evangelist, Lester Roloff, sang a little chorus I liked:
RUN IF YOU WANT TO RUN IF YOU WILL BUT I CAME HERE TO STAY,
IF I FALL DOWN I’M GONNA GET RIGHT UP CUZ I DIDNT START OUT TO PLAY.
IT'S A BATTLEFIELD BROTHER NOT A RECREATION ROOM , IT'S A FIGHT AND NOT A GAME.
SO RUN IF YOU WANT TO, RUN IF YOU WILL BUT I CAME HERE TO STAY!
