WHAT COMMENDS US TO CHRIST
"But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick."~ Matt. 9:12
Years ago there was a well-known philanthropist in England who took in little orphaned urchins off the street. One dark night a dirty-faced, tattered-clothed little boy came in out of the cold, seeking refuge. When the humanitarian asked who commended him, the child said "Sir, I thought these rags I wear would be enough commendation." And they were! And so will ours also.
It is not our wholeness, goodness, strengths, riches, or fullness, but the opposite of each that gets God's eye. We try so desperately to put our best foot forward, but it is the crippled one that draws His attention! We hide the very thing that He is looking for. Displaying the diseased part of our life is what our Great Physician is interested in; a horrid condition is what gains us an audience with the Lord.
Those of the Laodicean philosophy, "I have need of nothing," will receive just that from Jesus, "nothing!" But those who daily have the song upon their lips, "I need thee every hour," will find the help they need in any period of time. There will never be a time in the life of a child of God when he or she can say, "I need thee not!" Distrust puts us at a distance from God, but faith draws us near.
You don't have to bribe God to bless you!~ rds
