Some More-Some Less

“And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less…he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.”~ Ex.16:17-18
“…and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.”~ Psa. 105:40
Paul makes reference to the Manna of the Old Testament in the New Testament, 11 Cor.8:15. The principle taught is whether more or less,much or little, all were pleasantly satisfied. A thirty year old father ate more than his three year old son, who ate less; but both were filled.
And so it is with the Word of God, in our morning devotions, some gather more (much), while others gather less (little). But both leave God’s table with their spiritual appetites gratified.
I once heard a preacher say all saints should read they’re Bibles through three time a year. How unthoughtful, such a statement. I wonder if he would have said this if having to work eight to ten hours a day? As one has said, “It is not how many times you have gone through the Bible, but how many times it’s gone through you.”
A.W. Tozer, a good and godly man deep in the scripture, made a startling statement. He said that there were times he spent days mulling over one text, even weeks, before moving on in his devotions.
The word meditate is derived form the Latin, meaning, to ponder, think, consider. David tells us a godly man does this day and night, Psa. 1:2.
We need to take a lesson from the cow, and its digestive anatomy. “Food material mixes freely between the rumen and the reticulum and is regularly regurgitated back into the cow's mouth in the form of ‘cud’ for her to chew on again and again.” Ezk. 3:3

Sometimes when people say something, like this preacher did about reading the Bible three times a year, they only say it so people will know that they read their Bible three times a year because surely they wouldn’t say something like that if they didn’t do it themselves. Or do they?
