“…the love of many shall wax cold.”~ Matt. 24:12
Jesus said the above words to His disciples concerning one of the world conditions, just prior to His 2nd coming back to earth.
How does one stay warm in such a frigid, spiritual atmosphere?
I think of the story of the little boy, in olden times, returning from Sunday School. As he ran up a long flight of decayed tenement steps, he cried out again and again to his widowed mother, who was bedridden with pneumonia. As he got closer, his mother, who was chilled to the bone for scarcity of blankets, heard the little fella cry, “Mother, Mother, everything is going to be ok, you’ll be warm now; my Sunday School teacher said Jesus was going to send us another comforter! (Jn. 14:16)
God tells His people in Isaiah that they are to be covered with the covering of His Spirit (Isa. 30:1). This is the only way to stay warm when the icicles are hanging from the rafters in the church house.
O spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found,Wherever human hearts and human woes abound; Let ev’ry Christian tongue proclaim the joyful sound: The Comforter has come!
The Comforter has come, the Comforter has come! The Holy Ghost from Heav’n, the Father’s promise giv’n; O spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found—The Comforter has come!
