…thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.”~ Hos. 13:9
God, speaking to His people, tells them it is not a what but a who that is their problem. It is not the world, the flesh, or the devil; though this is often the trio we like to blame for our not going forward. Jesus overcame the world, the flesh has been crucified, and the devil lost all power over us at the Cross unless we consensually give it to him. That leaves us with no excuse.
D.L. Moody, the evangelist, said, “No one gives me more trouble than D. L. Moody!" I often tell my own grandchildren (and great-grandchildren), along with any youth who has ears to hear, “Only one person can stop you in this life.” Invariably they smile and say, “The devil.” To which I reply, “No! Only you can stop you.”
If you have ceased going forward in your spiritual life, don’t look around you; look within you! That is where the real problem lies. John the Baptist put an axe to the root of the tree. If you will go to the root of your problem, you will find yourself there, hiding out of sight. As the little chorus says, “It’s not my brother or my sister, but me O Lord…”
