“Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest_______”~ Mk. 10:21
I left the blank space for each of us to fill-in, if the text applies to our conscience. I find it is not generally “many things” that keep us from God’s best, but “one” thing. If you feel the story is addressed to you, then it is wise to meet the Lord there. Don’t go around Robin’s Barn, so to speak. Face it, and Him!
If you recall, Jesus gave a gentle rebuke to Martha in Luke’s gospel chapter ten. Our Lord told her she was putting many things in front of the one main thing, HIM! And so it was with the young rich ruler in our story. His one need was to follow HIM!
Although Jesus “loved” this young man, He did not overrule his choice. He knew, “A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still,” as the little saying goes.
We must all live by the choices we make; let us be sure the one we make is one we can live the rest of our lives with!~rds
