THE ALPHA AND OMEGA
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”~ Rev. 22:13
Revelation is the only book using the exact term of our title; it is found four times, and on each occasion our Lord is doing the speaking (1:8,11; 21:16; 22:13. The two words Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet. Notice Jesus interprets its meaning as being the first and the last. I might add He is not only the first and last, but all in between.
Theologians use the term “Christocentric,” meaning Christ is the center or focal point of the Bible. That being true, He is to have the preeminence in our preaching, writings, fellowship, witnessing, and daily life in general. But especially is this true in our prayer lives. From first to last His blessed name should come up often in out commune with God!
I was reading recently an old divine who commented, “The reason our prayers are so cold and lifeless is because there is so little of Jesus in them.” If you’re in such a state, this could be your problem. Jesus is the missing ingredient. To leave Him out, prayer becomes tasteless. If you want a transformed prayer life, then make much of Christ in all your prayers.
New Testament believers as well as godly saints in church history filled their prayers with that name, which is above every name. If you want to get God’s immediate attention, just say, “JESUS!” I find it works every time. He is the Father’s only beloved Son, and the talk of heaven ! To desire anything above His fullness in your prayers will leave you empty.
“When you begin to pray always get into this position, leaning on His bosom.”~ Andrew A. Bonor
