“O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.”~ Psa. 65:2
God says both to Solomon and Hezekiah, “I have heard thy prayer.” David writes, “God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.” And Zacharias, also, was informed, along with Cornelius, “…thy prayer is heard.” God is a prayer-hearing God. How wonderful the thought that our great God takes the time to listen to our prayers! He is not asleep or on a journey, as the world's god, 1Kgs.18:27.
To think that He would bend His ear to hear the likes of me is beyond my comprehension. Some think it a great thing that God answers our prayers, I think it remarkable that He would even listen! I feel like David, who, when in the presence of God, said, “Who am I, O Lord God…”
What condescension, that Almighty God would bow His ear to hear earthlings such as ourselves. Is not our text one of the most beautiful and sublime that has ever been penned? Oh, how I love to repeat it again and again! “O thou that hearest prayer…”
Who is not familiar with a little child on their father’s lap pulling at his ear, hoping for his attention to their words. We need never fear being in such a situation. Peter tells us in his first epistle, “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers.”
“Bible saints knew God heard their prayers because He answered them. Prayer, to them, was not one-sided.” (rds)
