The Evolution of a Christian
THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS ONE OF BECOMING
"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become...Come ye after me, and I will make you to become..." From our first encounter with Christ throughout the rest of our sojourn on earth, the saint is becoming. We gave up what we were for what he can make us become. “Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” A self-made man makes for a pitiful picture.
JESUS’ PHYSICAL LIFE CAN BE APPLIED TO OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE
Oswald Sanders says, “Jesus did not burst upon the world as a mature adult, but as a child who grew into manhood.” He had all the limitations of growth and development (except sin) that is inherent in humanity. “He was made like unto His brethren.” He passed through all the stages of the natural law of development that the rest of mankind does. And so it is in the Normal Christian Life: we grow spiritually. We begin as babes and are continually becoming more mature saints.
LET US NOT BE WEARY OR IMPATIENT WITH OURSELVES OR OTHERS
May God help us to constantly remind ourselves that the Lord is not finished with us yet! He finishes what He starts, you can be sure of it, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
WE ARE WHAT WE HAVE BEEN BECOMING!
I'm not what I wanta to be,
I'm not what I'm gonna be,
But I'm more than I would've been,
Had it not been for Him!
