“And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.”~Luke 15:13
Something I have noticed in the backslider's life is that when they decide to leave their Father, they go as far away as possible from Him. They think His past Godly influence upon them will be diluted and become weaker somehow, that they will no longer have to think about or make decisions concerning right and wrong.
But to their chagrin, they soon realize there is no place a rebel can escape His presence. David tells us in Psalms. “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee,~ Psalm 139:7-12. There is no place to hide!
When Demas left Paul because of his love for the present world and departed to Thessalonica, Demas found David’s statement to be true. As he entered the city, I think, standing under the welcome sign was GOD!
