THE PHARISEE WITHIN
“ I am a Pharisee.”~ Acts 23:6
During one of our morning talks we had through the years, after our individual devotional time, my wife made a statement that struck home with me. Speaking of someone close to us both she said, “They have an awful lot of Pharisee in them, but it’s ok; they know it, for they’ve told me so.” Their consciousnesses of the fact and admission to it will be the road to cure what ails them. That acknowledgement comes hard!
How difficult it is to admit to ourselves, as well as others, “I am a Pharisee!” Once brought to a true confession of this fact in our own lives, we’ll cease to be concerned with that spirit in others, realizing the Pharisee that lives within us is a sure way to keep us from being, “Pharisee Inspectors.” We will no longer thank God we’re not as other men are, but pray “God be merciful to me, a sinner.”
“Once a Pharisee comes into a right relationship with Jesus he or she, like the Pharisee Paul, will esteem others better than themselves.”~ rds
