If I have learned anything in life it has been the powerful and far reaching influence one man or woman can have upon other lives; even after their decease.
I just finished listening to a message by Dr. Bob Jones Sr. It gripped my heart in amazement of how much of my life and ministry was, and still is, influenced by his teachings; over these 64-plus years.
One of the truths the old Christian evangelist and philosopher instilled in me was, “There is no compromise with the world, the flesh, or the devil! There is unequivocally no middle ground!”
As my dear friend Dr. Tom Malone used to say, “The only thing in the middle of the road are white lines and dead skunks.”
Years ago I heard a story, I don’t know how true, of a young compromising soldier; during the war between the states. He dressed himself in Confederate pants and a Yankee coat. Wanting to get the approval of both sides. The result being he was shot at by both sides.
I read an interesting story recently that illustrates the point I am endeavoring to get across: In the early Sixteenth Century the Japanese wanted to stamp out Christianity in their country. To do so they had to search out all professing Christians. They came up with a method by which they would be able to identify true Believers. It was called, “Fumie”; meaning, to step on, to trample on.
They wound paint an image, representing Christ, on the ground, then ask all to spit and trample on the drawing. Those who refused were brutally tortured till death.
“We need more Christians with intestinal fortitude.”~ Dr. Bob Jones Sr.
