“For this my son (daughter) was dead, and is alive again; he (she) was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry”.~ Lk. 15:24
Just as there is more than one type of baptism mentioned in scripture, there is more than one kind of resurrection spoken of. The Prodigal Son’s father is an example of the latter of the aforementioned.
Death in the Bible is not cessation but separation. God told Adam the day he ate of the fruit he would die, but he didn’t, physically. But he was separated from God. He was a dead man walking.
Paul tells us a Christian woman who lives in (only for) pleasure, is dead while she liveth. Dead, yet alive. Prodigal children gone away from God are dead while still living. Dead meaning (separated), from all that is good and godly.
What inexpressible joy will be ours, who are parents of prodigal children, when we see him or her come home again. Raised from the hog-pen, to walk in newness of life!
By faith let us lay out fresh garments (clothing their sinful past), visit the jewelry shop for a ring (showing sonship), and pick up a new pair of shoes (for the new path they've chosen).
