THE RICH POOR MAN
“...the riches of His grace...the riches of His inheritance...God, who is rich in mercy...the exceeding riches of His kindness..the unsearchable riches of Christ...the riches of His glory...”~ Eph. 1:7,18; 2:4; 2:7; 3:8,16
The late commentator Warren Wiersbe mentions in one of his books how when he was a young man, God used the book of Ephesians to turn his spiritual life around. And Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, before his homegoing, who spent thirteen years teaching the book of Romans and eight expounding the Ephesian letter, said: “Romans is the purest expression of the gospel, the epistle to the Ephesians is the sublimest and the most majestic expression of it.” My two cents — It’s rapturous!
The saint who spends his or her time reading and studying this book will be the richer for it. And those who teach it to others, although they may possess little of this world’s goods, can say with Paul, “As poor, yet making many rich.” So sad it is to see those with such a rich inheritance live like paupers. This epistle is generally considered Paul’s profoundest book. It is about our spiritual wealth in Christ. One might say, “It’s all about going from rags to riches!”
The world refers to us as, “Those poor Christians”; O, if they only knew. We are said to be, “Heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.” Not only are we God’s heirs but on equal footing with Jesus Christ. All that the Blessed One possesses, He willingly and unselfishly shares with His elect! Solomon with all his earthly riches would be considered impoverished compared to the spiritual riches we have in Christ. “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.”
Oh yes, oh yes, I'm a child of the King
His royal blood now flows in my veins
And I who was wretched and poor now can sing
Praise God Praise God I'm a child of the King.
